BrowserFairy 2 for Mac - a new BrowserSelector

Just two and a half weeks ago we released the brand new BrowserFairy 2 for Mac. Part of this release was a rework of the BrowserSelector. The BrowserSelector is a litte window that is presented by the browser extensions or via BrowserFairy’s configurable shortcut (Option-Key + Click). Within this dialog there’s a selection of favorite browsers available that let’s you choose the browser to open a link with. The BrowserSelector allows to manually select a browser on the go and therefore complements BrowserFairy’s pre-configured rules perfectly for a smooth workflow.

Within the last weeks we reviewed user feedback and ideas to further improve BrowserFairy. There was one idea that stood out and - when we think about it - makes perfect sense. The idea is to show the BrowserSelector near the mouse pointer. Up to now the BrowserFairy window is presented always on the same position or to be more precise: the last used position. Since many BrowserFairy users select the browser within the BrowserSelector window with a mouse or the track pad it seems like a good idea to show the BrowserSelector window next to the mouse pointer. This would remove the need to travel with the mouse pointer and make for a much better usability.

We implemented and tested this new behavior right away but we found one problem. While the basic idea to position the BrowserSelector next to the mouse point turned out to be brilliant the design of the window just did not fit anymore. It was to bulky and we still had to much mouse travel due to the horizontal alignment of the browser icons.

We tried different things and what we came up with is a pretty much classic context menu window where the browsers are listed vertically. This allowed to not only add the browser names but now the shortcut numbers for the selection with the keyboard are included as well. So without further ado, meet the new BrowserSelector!

The new BrowserSelector will be part of the upcoming BrowserFairy update. It’ll probably hit the App Store within the next couple of days!
